First Chorus: a mindfulness exercise in awakening (week 8)

First Chorus: a mindfulness exercise in awakening (week 8)

First Chorus is this week’s urban bathing card. Its guiding theme is awakening. The practice is meant to stay simple: a few quiet minutes, one clear observation, and a little room to remain with what is already present around you.

Week 8 — First Chorus

Theme: Awakening

Prompt:
Step outside for 2–3 minutes and listen. Notice how it was quiet for so long, and now birdsong begins to stand out. First focus on a single voice, then expand your attention to the whole chorus.

Reflections:

  • What do I feel when silence breaks — relief, warmth, tension, calm?
  • What ‘first notes’ are returning to my life after a period of quiet?

How to approach this practice

You do not need to add much more to this card than what it already suggests. A few minutes, a little presence, and a willingness to return to it later in the week are enough if you want to see whether it lands differently the second time.
